Adjud is a city in Vrancea county, Romania, with a population of 17,677. Three villages are administered by the city: Adjudu Vechi, Burcioaia and Şişcani.

The municipality of Adjud is one of the important cities of Vrancea County, being located in the northeastern part of the county, in the Region of Development South-East from Romania. The relief is mainly formed of plain, the area being crossed in the south by Siret River and at the West by Trotus River, the municipality being placed at the confluence of the two rivers. Adjud is at the crossroad of the main railway and road communication ways, that connect the south part of the country and the northern part of Moldova, being placed at a distance of 58 km (36.04 mi) south of Bacau, at 46 km (28.58 mi) north to Focsani and 40 km (24.85 mi) east to Onesti. Our locality has been inhabited from the most ancient times, and traces of a permanent habitation of these places from the ancient times can be found round the locality from nowadays, a succession of civilizations existing on these places. The locality is attested from 1433, when the city of Adjud was still a great medieval little town. Today the town has in its componence the district Burcioaia and two villages: Adjudu Vechi and Siscani. The population of the municipality is of almost 21.500 inhabitants, and it has 11.722 houses. From an ethnical point of view, the structure is very compact. The inhabitants are in a percentage of 95 Romanians, 2% being gipsies and 0.4% other nationalities. The predominant religion is orthodox, followed by the catholic and other cults. From the stable population of the town, 10.100 are men, and 10.400 are women, including here all the localities. The population’s density is of 311 inhabitants/km2. The average age of the municipality of Adjud is of 30.3 years for men and 32,6 years for women. In the field of economy and social, the working force from Adjud has recorded many changes due to the facts specific to the transition economy, such as the structural and professional changes of the market economy, privatisation and unemployment. The active population of the municipality is of 8.225 persons, being recorded a number of 1.401 unemployed persons. The natural resources from Adjud lay on the exploiting of the agriculture fields, economy, and the town having an area of 3.109 km2 arable lands. The woods represent another important resource from the region that has an area of 452 km2. Although Adjud is a small town, with an area of 59.1 km2, the municipality of Adjud is the second centre of interest of the county, after the municipality of Focsani, being in the same time an important centre for economic and social polarization. In Adjud are 390 commercial units, 46 of them developing production activities, the rest of 344 having activities in the fields of services and commerce. The most important unit from Adjud is SC Vrancart Adjud SA, which is an important producer of paper and corrugated cardboard. Other areas of activity are the confections, the furniture industry and construction materials. From a touristy point of view, Adjud is situated in area with a great potential, due to the areas for wine producing as well as for the landscape, the locality offering 175 places for accommodation and two cottages acreditated for agro tourism. We also mention that in Adjud there are 16 school units (7 kindergartens, 7 schools and 2 high schools), in which are studying a number of 3.526 students, a hospital with 150 beds, 42 doctors and 132 nurses and 6 pharmacies. In Adjud, the social service is offered by the City Hall from Adjud, through the Service of Social Assistance. In what concerns the culture, the first cultural organization has been established in 1919 under the name The Cultural centre “To the light”. The present location of the Municipal House of Culture has been inaugurated in 1965 and it hosts folklore shows and theatre representations, exhibitions, symposiums. The first library has been opened in 1923 by the members of the Cultural centre “To the light”, that has became public after 1948. The present headquarters of the Municipal Library has been inaugurated on 9 April 1998 and in the present there are almost 70.000 books. The information mentioned above contribute to the formation of a general idea regarding the characteristics and the actual situation of the municipality of Adjud, précising that due to the favourable position of the town, it has a great economic potential, having a varied work qualification, with many traditions and cultural customs, with tradition in commerce and craftsmanship and with agriculture potential.

Paper manufacturing and textiles are Adjud's main industries.

An ancient Dacian settlement, named "Piroboridava", located in today's commune of Poiana Nicoreşti), was discovered.

The Castle of Lahovary is located near Adjud.
