Panciu

The town of Panciu in the county of Vrancea in Romania lies on the river Şuşiţa, in southern Moldavia, 30 km (19 mi) northwest of Focşani. It has a population of approximately 9,000.

The region is famous for its white wines but also for its sparkling wines (white, red and rosé). Panciu city is located between hills planted with vines from Vrancea County, about 200 kilometres from the capital city and international airport "Henri Coanda" and approximately 35 kilometers from Focsani, city county seat. The city population is of 8989 inhabitants. The main access road to the city is the national road DN Panciu 2 L Tişiţa-Soveja. The city’s attractions are Panciu Hermitage "Brazi", Steven the Great Cellars, and also the writer’s Ioan Slavici grave. At the Hermitage Brazi rest the relics of Theodosius, the city's patron saint, canonized in 2003. The writer Ioan Slavici is also a personality that Panciu city boasts. Born on January 18, 1848 in Siria, Arad County, the writer withdraws from old age in a city where Panciu dies on August 17, 1925 in Crucea de Jos. Steven the Great Cellars were discovered in the ‘50s and are famous for the sparkling wines Panciu that are housing. In the autumn, the city attractions are the grapes that can be purchased from a grape market town, situated at the entrance in the village.
