Călan is a town in Romania, in Hunedoara County, on the Strei river valley, at 230 m altitude.

Fourteen villages are administered by the town: Batiz, Călanu Mic, Grid, Nădăştia de Jos, Nădăştia de Sus, Ohaba Streiului, Sâncrai, Sântămăria de Piatră , Strei, Strei-Săcel, Streisângeorgiu and Valea Sângeorgiului.

History:

  • There was a village in Dacia known as Aquae. Archaeological evidence shows that the place was inhabited for a long time.
  • 1387 - First mentioned in a document.
  • 1961 - Călan became a town.
