Gătaia is a town in Timiş County, Transylvania , western Romania. It is located on the Bârzava River at 52 km (32 mi) from Timişoara and 47 km (29 m) from Reşiţa.

It is the birthplace of Adalbert Deşu, a Romanian football striker, who played at the 1930 FIFA World Cup with the Romanian national football team.
